Year 3 marks the beginning of students’ development of ensemble skills, as they engage in call and response activities using the glockenspiel. This unit aligns with the curriculum’s aim of nurturing collaborative musical experiences. Pupils learn to actively listen, respond, and cooperate with peers in a musical context, a fundamental skill that will continue to grow as they progress through Key Stage 2. Their instrumental proficiency is strengthened, laying the groundwork for more complex ensemble work and ensemble notation reading in the future.
Expected Standards:
- Play simple melodies on tuned percussion, melodic instruments, or keyboards, following staff notation within a small note range.
- Engage in ensemble playing within a larger group or class, taking on basic melody or accompaniment roles (e.g. ostinato).
