Pupils refine their understanding of tonal qualities, enhancing their ability to recognise major and minor elements in music. This phase builds upon their previous work in musical expression and listening skills and prepares them for more intricate tonal explorations and performances in the coming years.
Expected Standards:
- Begin to understand the difference between major and minor.
- Perform in two or more parts (e.g. melody and accompaniment or a duet) and identify the static and moving parts.
- Read and play short rhythmic phrases at sight from prepared cards, using conventional symbols for known rhythms and note durations.
